visit to diosd, hungary
Our project’s first visit was in the town of Diosd, just outside the capital city of Budapest. This visit was a joint-staff training event for teachers and was called “Let’s improve our chess and game-related knowledge together!” It was a wonderful visit that included a little bit of everything: games and goulash, workshops and cultural visits and even a reception by the mayor. Three highlights of the visit stand out in particular: first, when a group of talented Hungarian students sang our chess song and played traditional instruments for us; second, when we visited the schools and got to see how Hungarian teachers are using Judit Polgar’s “Chess Palace” program in schools; and third, when a group of young Hungarian entrepreneurs showed us how they are working to bring BOARD GAMES back into schools and showing how important it is for children to PLAY.
